Every once in a while there’s a little toy you have to have. Universal Audio’s UAD plugins are fantastic and we’ve been using them in pretty much every mix for about 10 years. During this year they released updated versions of some of their classic hardware emulations like the 1176 and the LA2A. Do they sound like the real ones? Having worked with the analogue originals (owning several 1176) we can say – not like ours. Are they really good software though? Yes and they sound incredible. Just alone the fact that you can use many of them instead of just a few hardware ones makes them great value for money.
